Development and Testing of a Technology for Reprocessing Depleted Uranium Metal Chips at the Rt-1 Plant
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Fabrication of items made of depleted uranium metal is accompanied with generation of waste in the form of uranium metal chips. As a rule, it is stored in storehouses. It was proposed to dissolve the chips and to use the resulted solutions in the RT-1 plant processes. The authors worked out conditions for safe loading of chip briquettes into the dissolver and their subsequent dissolution there. Experience gained during industrial-scale operation has demonstrated the validity of the selected process parameters.
