Type: article
Abstract: Dominican Republic and Haiti are two nations that share the same island, however, there does not exist between them a healthy relationship as typical neighbors, instead, they have been dealing with the phenomenon of discrimination. The origin of this phenomenon lies in Dominican society and step by step it had gone deeper in different common spaces until reaching public schools. Methodology: it was divided into two different moments first an analysis content and second the application of two surveys one for students and the other for teachers. The content of analysis consisted of 544 news articles from three of the most important newspapers Diario Libre, Listín Diario y Acento for 6 months. The analysis involved 9 categories related to Haitians. On the other hand, the surveys were applied to 23 students and 5 teachers specifically. Results: The main actors in producing discrimination are the peers especially Dominicans toward Haitians. Finally, the data showed that for the school, discrimination against Haitians ascendants is not an important issue that must be controlled. Conclusion: The school administration and Ministry of Education must evaluate its policy in that aspect and adjust to guarantee quality and wellbeing during the education journey to those Haitians descendants.
