Abstract: . Base isolation of structures allows for large isolator displacements during strong ground motions, which reduces the seismic forces acting on a superstructure. However, recent large-scale earthquakes have triggered long-period ground motions, raising concerns regarding excessive isolator displacement beyond design limits. This study proposes a method to selectively increase damping around the isolation period using an inerter-based dynamic vibration absorber, thereby reducing excessive deformation in the isolation layer without compromising the isolation effect.
