Abstract: The gut microbiome is a diverse and complex ecosystem vital for maintaining host health. In recent years, research has focused on in vivo and in vitro models to explore its multifaceted roles. In vitro models provide controlled environments for studying digestion and microbial interactions, while in vivo models enable the assessment of host-microbe interactions in more holistic settings. This article presents the advantages, limitations, and applications of both models, emphasizing their contributions to understanding gut microbiome dynamics.
