Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Khatoozin, a self-taught artist, embodies the essence of naïve art through her unique terracotta sculptures, which are deeply influenced by Kurdish mythology and her surroundings. Beginning her artistic journey at sixty, she drew inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of her region and the characteristics of local clay, allowing her imagination to flourish. Her sculptures, often depicting fantastical animal forms, reflect a spontaneous creativity marked by simplicity and a deep connection to nature. This paper explores the distinctive features of Khatoozin’s work, emphasizing the interplay of naïve artistic expression and cultural symbolism. By examining her representations of animals and the incorporation of local folklore, the study highlights the significance of her art in expressing a personal and communal identity, ultimately positioning her as a prominent figure within the naïve art movement.
