Impact of Housing, Food, and Transportation Insecurities on Patients With Cancer

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Cancer rates among people who are unhoused are four times higher than those who are housed (Asgary, 2024). In addition, mortality rates for people who are unhoused are twice that of those not afflicted with housing insecurity. Per Majumder and Bien (2022), for people who are unhoused or experiencing housing insecurity, cancer is typically diagnosed in later stages. It is a leading cause of death in this patient population (Biedrzycki, 2018). Common cancers for this population include lung, oropharyngeal, breast, cervical, and colorectal (Lawrie et al., 2020).
