Tumor-Infiltrating Lymphocyte Therapy for Melanoma: Nursing Considerations

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: On February 16, 2024, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first cellular therapy, lifileucel, for the “[t]reatment of adult patients with unresectable or metastatic melanoma previously treated with a PD-1 blocking antibody, and if BRAF V600 mutation positive, a BRAF inhibitor with or without a MEK inhibitor” (U.S. Food and Drug Administration, 2024, para. 1). Lifileucil, a tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapy, uses T cells from a patient’s surgically resected melanoma tumor, which is sent to a manufacturing facility.
