Comparative Analysis of GO and ZnO Coatings on No-Core Fibre-based Sensor for Uric Acid Detection

Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: This paper discusses the work, advancement, and assessment of a sensor system primarily composed of no-core fibre (NCF) specifically in measuring and detection of uric acids (UA). In order to enhance the sensitivity of the NCF sensor, graphene oxide (GO) and zinc oxide (ZnO) coatings were applied onto the fibre. This will facilitate better interaction with the surrounding samples and by extension, enhance the sensitivity of the process. Experimental results revealed that the uncoated NCF sensor achieved a sensitivity value of 0.00331 ± 0.00012 nm/μM. It is also important to note that the NCF-GO sensor was able to achieve a sensitivity of 0.0045 ± 0.00021 nm/μM, while NCF-ZnO sensor produced a sensitivity of 0.00452 ± 0.00019 nm/μM, respectively. From the data presented, the NCF-GO and NCF-ZNO sensors showed better performance in comparison with the naked sensor. This result indicates that the NCF sensor that was coated with selective material has a higher sensitivity than the uncoated one sensor. Thus, this research enhances the growth of a highly sensitive and effective sensor for UA detection especially in future works such as the scope of biomedical health diagnostics.
