Transbronchial Lung Biopsy Guidance
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Incidents of lung cancer worldwide have increased over time. According to the latest world health association data published in 2020, lung cancer deaths in Indonesia reached 1,69% of total death. Only one in six lung cancers are diagnosed early, and over half are diagnosed with distant metastasis. Numerous lung cancer screenings with low-dose computed tomography scans (CT scans) have led to an exponential increase in the detection of indeterminate lung nodules. Lung biopsy was performed through open surgical methods until 1963. Transbronchial biopsy with flexible bronchoscopy offers lower morbidity and mortality in the amount of effectiveness. Thus, an increasing need for peripheral lung nodules biopsy modalities is advanced. The quality of data supporting their use, some of the perceived weaknesses and strengths of each technology, and introduce promising emerging diagnostic platforms poised to advance the field.
