Probabilistic analysis of cable tension measurement using frequency method
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Although the frequency method is widely used for measuring cable tension in cable-stayed structures, the measured tension depends on the tension-frequency relationship, which is influenced by parameters such as measured frequencies and the cable’s structural properties. Since these parameters are random variables, the resulting cable tension measurements exhibit variability, leading to challenges in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the measurements. This paper introduces a probabilistic analysis method for evaluating the reliability of the cable tension measurement when addressing the uncertainty inherent. The method identifies the statistical characteristics of the measured cable tension and determines the reliability of these measurements for various accuracy levels. It provides quantitative reliability assessment for cable tension measurement outcomes, thereby enhancing the interpretability and applicability of measurement results in engineering practice. For practical application, this method is applied to the Ganzhuxi Bridge, identifying the distribution type and numerical characteristics of the measured cable tensions. Subsequently, reliable probability information for different measurement accuracies is obtained, allowing for a scientific evaluation of cable tension measurement accuracy.
