Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: This paper examines the role that urban agriculture has played in the lives of the citizens of Detroit throughout its history. By using newspaper articles, books, scholarly journals, websites, and one self-conducted interview, this essay explores several Detroit urban agriculture programs. Analysis of past successes and failures of urban agriculture programs shows how investing in urban agriculture today may address many similar problems Detroit faces. Thanks to the city’s unique landscape, community, and spatial disparity, Detroit has the potential to become a world leader in urban agriculture.
