Analysis of the impact of vector thrust on aircraft climb performance under various flight conditions
Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: This paper presents an analytical model that integrates the nonlinear kinetic energy dynamics of the F-16 aircraft with the functionality of vectoring nozzles, focusing on their influence on climb performance under various flight conditions. The study highlights that thrust vectoring significantly enhances maneuverability and control at high angles of attack, compensating for aerodynamic control saturation and expanding the flight envelope. In combat scenarios, it offers notable advantages by improving control during dogfights and evasive maneuvers. The F-16 equipped with thrust vectoring demonstrates significant improvements in climb performance at higher altitudes, showcasing a 35% increase in pitch angle and a remarkable 57.8% boost in pitch rate when compared to the baseline model. Both models demonstrate improved stability at higher speeds, with the modified model showcasing overall stability benefits.
