The influence of landing gear arrangement on take-off performance of tailless aircraft

Abstract: Tailless layout aircraft has a large lift-to-drag ratio and high aerodynamic efficiency, but the moment arm of longitudinal control is short, and the pitching moment in the take-off period is small, which is prone to the problem of wheel lifting difficulty. The paper presents an analysis of the forces that act upon the aircraft during the take-off period, as well as a detailed account of the computational process employed in the construction of a dynamic model, uses the fixed-step iteration method to calculate the take-off performance of the conventional layout and tailless layout aircraft, and analyzes the factors affecting rotation speed of the tailless aircraft. The calculations show that increasing the horizontal distance between the front landing gear position and the center of gravity position, and decreasing that between the main landing gear and the center of gravity position, can improve the take-off performance of the tailless aircraft.
