A MBSE-based architect design approach for satellite constellations

Abstract: As the number of satellites in constellations increases, the complexity of these systems grows, posing significant challenges to their design, management, and control. To address these challenges, this study proposes a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approach. By utilizing MBSE methods and tools, a satellite constellation architecture and modeling framework is developed. Digital techniques are employed to streamline the design process. A case study of an Internet satellite constellation is conducted to demonstrate the approach. The results show that, compared to traditional document-based methods, the MBSE approach not only reduces reliance on documents and natural language but also enhances traceability and consistency throughout the design process.
