The Influence of Scouting Attributes on Leadership Performance: Implications for an Enhanced Scouting Program
Year: 2024
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: This descriptive-correlational design investigated the influence of scouting on the leadership performance of Senior Scouts at Nicomedes R. Tubar Sr. National High School (NRTNHS) in Iloilo, Philippines. Data was collected through researcher-made instruments and analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and Spearman's rho. Results indicated a “very high level” of scouting attributes among the scouts. Leadership performance was also outstanding. A positive correlation was found between the level of scouting attributes and leadership performance. These findings suggest that scouting instills strong values in scouts, regardless of sex, and fosters leadership skills. Furthermore, the positive correlation between scouting attributes and leadership performance highlights the potential of scouting programs in nurturing future leaders. The study also led to the development of an Enhanced Scouting Program. This program focused on workshops that promote practical skills, including leadership development, service and community engagement, outdoor adventures, personal growth, and reflection. The program can further strengthen the positive influence of scouting on leadership development among NRTNHS Senior Scouts.
