[MSB-48] Emergency Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement in Patients Following Failed Valve-in-Valve Transcatheter Valve Procedure: A Case Series

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Valve-in-valve transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has become a less invasive alternative to reoperation for elderly or high-risk patients with failed bioprosthetic valves. Data from the EuRECS-TAVI (European Registry on Emergent Cardiac Surgery during TAVI) registry, covering 27,760 TAVI procedures, demonstrated that emergency cardiac surgery due to TAVI complications occurs in 0.76 to 0.98% of cases. The most common reasons include ventricular perforation (28.3%), annular rupture (21.2%), valve migration/embolization (12.7%), and aortic dissection (11.8%).
