Abstract: Technological advancements not only affect physical and virtual objects in the industrial sector. Technology also acts as a solution to improve safety in industrial environments, with the aim of reducing the risk of accidents for human workers. The engine is a vital component in every vehicle, including ships. To monitor engine performance and ensure the safety of passengers, goods, and crew, a reliable monitoring system is required. Digital Twin enables real-time monitoring and control of engine parameters, such as RPM and engine throttle control. The technology provides easy-to-understand digital visualization and enables quick identification of potential problems. In this case, the Progammable Logic Controller (PLC) and Digital Twin become a system that can be used to monitor and control the engine in real-time. In this research, a proximity sensor equipped with infrared light and a stepper motor that acts as an engine throttle controller are used to monitor RPM. The experimental results show that the RPM value measured through the proximity sensor compared to the use of a tachometer has a low error value of 4.31%. And the utilization of stepper motor in controlling the engine throttle is also effective. These two components are connected to the PLC for the process of receiving data which then the value of the results is transmitted to the server to be displayed through mobile apps. This research contributes to the application of Digital Twin technology in the maritime industry by increasing safety and efficiency in ship propulsion systems.
