Factors Influencing Corrosion of Underground Metal Pipes in Clay Soil
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Corrosion is a major contributor for failures of buried metal pipes. Pipeline corrosion is a worldly recognized problem and has been a major concern for owners of pipeline in the past decades. This study is aim to characterize the influences of soil properties that causes the corrosion of underground pipes which is moisture content, organic content, pH value and chemical composition content. Soil samples from three different areas were taken to the laboratory for test and analysis. The soil samples are tested by four tests which moisture content test, soil pH test, organic content test and chemical composition content test. This study revealed that the soil properties as mentioned above has responsible for the underground pipes corrosions happens. The results obtained showed that the soil samples from the three area which is red clay soil are very corrosive to the underground pipeline.
