Intramedullary Screw Fixation of Distal Fibula Fractures: A Surgical Technique

Abstract: The traditional method of surgical repair of pilon fracture complexes and distal tibia intraarticular fractures has been open reduction and internal fixation. However, this carries a high risk of complications, particularly in patients with known risk factors. For these patients, we present a viable alternative surgical technique for the repair of these fractures involving intramedullary screw fixation of the distal fibula, and we find in other reviews that this technique offers faster recovery and lower risk of complications compared to the traditional method.
