Artificial intelligence, as a new emerging technology, has made up for the defects of traditional translation methods. Meanwhile, as a generative artificial intelligence, ChatGPT has demonstrated the formidable vitality. By analyzing the text characteristics and AI development, this research focuses on the application of artificial intelligence in the translation of shipbuilding engineering English text and the comparation of ChatGPT’s translations with those of the Chinese version textbook published by Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press.
