Response to Letter to the Editor on Duffy-null Associated Neutrophil Count and Its Impact on Our Military Healthcare System

Year: 2025
Type: letter
Abstract: Dear Dr. Rothwell, Thank you to Drs. Awad and Stoll for acknowledging the important work of highlighting disparities within the Military Health System in our study by Koehlmoos et al., “Racial Disparities in the Military Health System: A Framework Synthesis.” Our review included studies that used the Military Health System Data Repository similar in time period and methodological approach. Drs. Awad and Stoll highlight an interesting potential disparity in Duffy-null Associated Neutrophil Count. We believe that this work is important and deserving of its own original research article so that it may inform programmatic reform and potentially future systematic reviews of racial disparities in the Military Health System. Our previous research on access to genetic counseling, done with Dr. Hellwig et al.,1 did not demonstrate a disparity in access to genetic counseling but rather an overall underutilization of genetic counseling in the Military Health System. None declared. This project was funded through the Center for Health Services Research by the United States Defense Health Agency, Grant No. HU0001-20-2-0035.
