Abstract: From the rich archival evidence on Venetian Crete the paper focuses on the testimonies regarding the various clay objects. Reference is made as to the circumstances under which clay vessels are encountered in the written sources, as well as to the categories of ceramics mentioned and to specificities leading to further revelations not only on specific aspects of the ceramics’ ‘life-cycle’ but also on the participation of the clay objects in the formation of social relations.
