Automated Plant Pathogen Detection Using Lab-on-a-disc (load) and Secondary Motion Technology
Year: 2024
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: Tomato bacterial canker, caused by Clavibacter michiganensis ssp.michiganensis (Cmm), poses a critical threat to global tomato agriculture. This pathogen necessitates early and precise detection to manage outbreaks effectively and minimise economic losses. In response, this study introduces a pioneering Lab-on-a-Disc (LoaD) system incorporating Secondary Motion/2 Degrees of Freedom (2DoF) centrifugal microfluidics and single pot lysis technology. This innovative system is tailored for the rapid, automated, and field-applicable detection of Cmm, designed to overcome the limitations of traditional pathogen detection methods, offering improvements in testing speed, automation and reliability [1].
