Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Introduction. The article deals with the assessment and analysis of wind energy resources in the Ural Mountains, a promising region for renewable energy development. The research focuses on the potential of wind energy for power supply in the region, considering its complex terrain and climate conditions. Materials and methods. The study involved several stages: collection and analysis of existing meteorological data, field research in various areas of the Ural region, numerical modeling of wind flows, and assessment of wind energy potential. The meteorological data from Rosgidromet archives and remote sensing data were analyzed. Field measurements were conducted using a portable anemometer (Testo 417). WindSim software was used for numerical modeling, based on solving the Navier-Stokes equations using the finite volume method. Results. The analysis of long-term meteorological data revealed that the average annual wind speed on most stations located in valleys and intermountain basins ranges from 2.5 to 4 m/s. Significantly higher average annual wind speed values were recorded on open sections of mountain ranges, reaching 6-8 m/s. Field measurements confirmed the data from stationary meteorological stations. Numerical modeling allowed obtaining a detailed picture of the distribution of wind speed in the Ural region. A wind energy potential map of the Ural Mountains was created, highlighting zones with varying levels of wind potential. Discussion. The results obtained from the experimental work, which included the collection and analysis of meteorological data, field research, numerical modeling using specialized software, and evaluation of the environmental impact of wind turbines, confirm the significant wind energy potential in the Ural region. This offers prospects for the development of wind energy and reducing dependence on traditional energy sources. Conclusion. The study demonstrates the significant wind energy potential of the Ural Mountains, suggesting promising opportunities for developing wind energy and reducing reliance on traditional energy sources. When implementing wind energy projects, it is necessary to consider environmental aspects and take measures to minimize negative impacts on the environment. The most promising regions for wind turbine placement are highlighted, offering valuable insights for future development. Resume. This research provides a comprehensive assessment of wind energy resources in the Ural Mountains, paving the way for sustainable energy solutions in the region. The results can be used for the development of an energy strategy for the Ural region, attracting investments in the development of wind energy and improving the quality of life of the population.
