Abstract: In recent years, the use of non-homogeneous iron to activate sodium persulfate (PDS) to generate oxidation of free radicals such as sulfate for the removal of water pollutants has received widespread attention. Iron-loaded zeolites (Z300, Z500 and Z700) were prepared by impregnation and calcination at 300, 500 and 700 °C to investigate the degradation of bisphenol A (BPA) by its activating PDS. Batch experiments were carried out to study the effect of various parameters such as calcination temperature, catalyst dosage, PDS concentration, solution pH value and co-existing anions on degradation. The removal rate of BPA using PDS activated by Z300 could be up to 98 % within 60 min at the conditions 0.5 g/L of Z300 dosage, 1 mmol/L of PDS concentration and solution pH= 7. Meanwhile, the co-existing anions (Cl - , HCO 3 - and H 2 PO 4 - ) inhibited the removal of BPA. Radical quenching test was also performed and it was shown that both free radical and non-free radical pathways existed in the reaction system and their contributions were ranked as 1 O 2 > ·O 2 - > ·OH>SO 4 - ·. The results could provided an implication for iron-loaded mineral preparation and the removal of stubborn pollutants in water using PDS in the heterogeneous catalysis way.
