The Impact of Shyness on Self-Esteem in Young Adults
Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: This study explores how shyness might connect to our sense of self-worth in young adults, revealing a significant negative correlation between the two. Data from 300 participants, collected using established scales (Cheek & Buss, 1981; Rosenberg, 1965), shows that increased shyness is linked with decreased self-worth. Regression analysis confirms shyness as a predictor of self-esteem, suggesting that socially withdrawn people may face challenges with self-worth and confidence, potentially hindering personal and professional growth. The findings emphasize the need for interventions targeting social skills development and self-esteem enhancement to promote psychological well-being in shy young adults.
