Appeal to Civil Law Values in the Process of Constructing the Police Image in Media Discourse
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The article highlights the issue of linguistic modeling of the law enforcement bodies’ image in political media discourse, in newspaper discourse particularly. The peculiarity of the reality perception is manifested in the linguistic consciousness of a person, that is, the results of the familiarization of the world and its objects are fixed by linguistic means. The media act as an effective tool for the formation of desired images, political and ideological attitudes, value orientations and ideological positions of the population. One of the most relevant value orientations of an individual is civil law values, the appeal to which allows the authors of media texts to construct and intrude in the recipient’s mind a demanded image of Police force and its officers. In newspaper discourse the maximum speech-influencing effect on the addressee’s consciousness is achieved with the help of carefully selected linguistic means that contribute to the actualization of socially significant and personally relevant meanings.
