Historical features of the development of the men’s gymnasium in Glazov, Vyatka Governorate, in the early 20th century

Abstract: The objective of this research is to identify and analyze the historical features of the men’s gymnasium founded in the early 20th century in the town of Glazov, Vyatka Governorate. The article examines the reasons for and characteristics of the establishment of the men’s gymnasium, the specifics of the organization of the educational process, and the stages of construction of the gymnasium building. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that, for the first time, a comprehensive study has been conducted to analyze the historical features of the gymnasium based on published and unpublished sources. As a result, the author concludes that its establishment was extremely necessary, since there was not a single educational institution of this type in the eastern part of the Vyatka Governorate at the beginning of the 20th century, which was facilitated by a low level of economic development. Therefore, without the help of additional sources – the active work of the zemstvo and charitable contributions from the merchant class – the opening of the educational institution and the construction of the building would have been impossible. It is also noted that, architecturally, the gymnasium building represents a unique example of provincial eclecticism with elements of Art Nouveau.
