Cross-Disciplinary Research on Music and Cultural Activities: Uncovering Trends and Interconnections via CiteSpace Visualization Analysis

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: As the global importance of music and cultural activities grows, the related academic fields are also rapidly developing. However, existing literature lacks comprehensive and visualized analyses of interdisciplinary trends and research hotspots, which presents a clear gap. This study innovatively fills this gap by employing CiteSpace software to conduct a bibliometric visualization analysis of the literature on "Music and Cultural Activities" from the Web of Science database .This approach integrates interdisciplinary data visualization techniques to provide new insights into the field and reveal its development trends. The results show a significant increase in publications over the past few decades, particularly since 2017, with an explosive rise in the number of publications. While traditional disciplines such as musicology, education, sociology, and cultural studies remain dominant, our analysis highlights the recent increase in interdisciplinary research, particularly at the intersection of psychology, public health, and other emerging fields. The scope of research has expanded from traditional music education to include music therapy, social behavior, mental health, and the impact of cultural activities on public health.Through the visualized literature analysis, this study identifies key authors and institutions driving the development of this interdisciplinary field. It demonstrates the increasing trend of international collaboration, particularly from the UK, the US, and China.Keyword analysis further emphasizes the current research hotspots, including "music," "health," and "popular music," revealing the profound socio-cultural and health-related impacts of music.By providing a comprehensive quantitative assessment and visual mapping of these trends, this study supplements existing literature and provides an important theoretical framework for the field's future development.Future research is expected to explore further integration of music and health, particularly in interdisciplinary collaboration and big data analysis, which will strongly support cultural policy formulation.
