Abstract: This study aimed to explore the role of heuristics in ethical judgments. Statistical analysis sought to determine whether heuristics serve as positive cognitive tools or as negative (biased) mechanisms in processing information and resolving moral dilemmas. Data was collected from 70 Costa Rican adults assessed using the Cognitive Reflection Test (CRT) and the Moral Reasoning Questionnaire (MRQ). These instruments enabled the identification and measurement of moral reasoning skills and cognitive heuristics, providing insights into the role of heuristic and intuitive approaches in ethical reasoning. The findings indicated no decisive influence of moral reasoning on the use of heuristics as a reasoning method. However, gender differences in the use of heuristics were observed. Although the study did not find conclusive relationships between the main factors (moral and heuristic reasoning) and variables such as age, gender, and educational level, further research into cognitive skills is recommended.
