Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This study analyzes the impact of the digital transformation of music education curricula, based on the SAMR model, on teaching methods and learning outcomes. While digital tools have enabled innovation in music education, effectively integrating them remains challenging. The study employed a qualitative case study and in-depth interviews with 15 third-year university students majoring in music education to explore the effects of the four stages of the SAMR model: Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition.Findings showed that in the Substitution stage, electronic scores and virtual instruments improved resource accessibility but did not significantly change learning methods. The Augmentation stage enhanced student engagement through instant feedback and interactive quizzes, though some students faced challenges with tool complexity. The Modification stage restructured learning tasks, fostering creativity and collaboration through individual creation and collaborative learning. The Redefinition stage introduced virtual reality and multicultural collaboration projects, fundamentally redefining learning experiences and promoting innovation and cultural understanding. This study highlights the value of the SAMR model in music education's digital transformation. It demonstrates how digital tools can address diverse educational needs by fostering personalized learning experiences and cultural integration. Moreover, the study provides educators with practical strategies to effectively integrate technology into curricula, enhancing student engagement and creativity. The findings suggest that thoughtful application of the SAMR model can significantly contribute to the advancement of music education in the digital era.
