Abstract: Adipose tissue plays a crucial role in maintaining energy homeostasis and metabolic health.Dysregulation of adipose tissue metabolism, often driven by excessive nutrient intake, contributes to obesity and metabolic diseases, frequently associated with chronic inflammation.MicroRNAs, small non-coding RNAs, have emerged as key regulators of adipose tissue metabolism, influencing adipogenesis, mitochondrial metabolism, and non-shivering thermogenesis. In addition, miRNAs regulate obesity-induced inflammatory responses and insulin resistance of adipose tissue. In this review, we summarize the current understanding of miRNA functions in adipose tissue, particularly their role in regulating metabolic homeostasis.Additionally, we highlight recent findings on specific miRNA species that control key signaling pathways within adipose tissue and discuss how adipose tissue-derived miRNAs influence other metabolic organs, such as the liver.Furthermore, we explore potential therapeutic targets to develop miRNA-based treatment for obesity-related metabolic diseases.Gaining insight into miRNA-regulated networks within adipose tissue reveals their potential as therapeutic targets, underscoring their critical importance in maintaining metabolic health and addressing obesity.
