Robust Active FTC based on Sliding Mode Observer for Switching Systems with Actuator Faults: Application to HiMAT Vehicle

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This present paper proposes a robust active fault tolerant control ( FTC ) scheme for a class of continuous -time switched systems in the presence of external disturbances and actuator failures . In this FTC strategy , a sliding mode observer ( SMO ) is developed so that the estimations of system state and actuator fault can be obtained simultaneously . With the obtained estimations information, a switched state feedback fault - tolerant controller is constructed for both compensating the effect of actuator faults and stabilizing the closed - loop system. By using the mode- dependent average dwell time ( MDADT ) concept and the multiple Lyapunov function sufficient conditions for the existence of the proposed SMO and fault tolerant controller are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities ( LMIs ) optimization . Finally , simulation example of a highly maneuverable aircraft technology ( HiMAT ) vehicle is considered to illustrate the applicability and performance of the developed results .
