Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The article describes the axiological potential, social and pragmatic features of English neologisms of urban communication studies discourse. The analysis of urban discourse in general and urban communication studies discourse in particular is relevant because this discourse type reflects the development dynamics and the image of a modern city. The current study was carried out from the perspective of urban communication studies, a field of modern research which is developing rapidly and is referred to in the English-speaking scientific field by the term “urban communication studies”. The city is interpreted as a complex communicative and cultural system, which consists of different means, forms and channels of human communication and may be broadly defined as a “text”. Within the scope of urban communication studies, the city is explored not only as a geographical, but also as a linguacultural space. The formation of a modern city image is not possible without the analysis of neological units. Following the interpretation of neologisms in Russian and foreign linguistics, the authors of the article understand these linguistic units as a result of changes that occur in the linguistic mindset of society. The conducted research has made it possible to illustrate the linguistic landscape of some modern cities.
