Biochemistry and Pathochemistry of Serotonin in the Pathogenesis of Migraine. Aspects of Drug Therapy

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: In the presented scientific work, one of the most important issues of neurology and neurochemistry is discussed in the order of discussion and analysis, concerning the mechanisms of occurrence and formation of a stable pulsating headache in migraine. This nosology is a very urgent problem in all developed countries and is a real scourge of a considerable part of the population, especially for people of working age. In recent years, the so-called "serotonin" theory of this disease has attracted more and more attention. The latter is based on the key points for understanding the pathochemical aspects of migraine, primarily the manifestations of the biochemical activity of the hormone serotonin, its effects mediated through specific receptors and the cascade of chemical transformations realized by them in target cells, which underlies the biochemical signaling of this hormone. The latter manifests itself very ambiguously in various cells and tissues of the human body with the participation of a heterogeneous pool of biochemical intermediaries. In the treatment of migraine, the biochemical mechanisms of the pharmacodynamic effect of paracetamol are rather poorly studied at the molecular level, as described in this manuscript by our own arguments in the order of discussion.
