Abstract: The event, which took place at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IE RAS) on February 19, 2025, was timed to coincide with the release of a collective monograph by the IE RAS staff, «Elections to the European Parliament 2024: A Stage in the Evolution of the Party System of the Old World». The discussion focused on the problems of forming legislative and executive bodies in the leading countries of this continent: Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal and the Balkans. The cross-cutting themes were the functioning of various EU structures, the ambiguity of the assessment of immigration policy, energy problems, the EU’s relations with the United States, Russia and China. The participants of the round table focused on the most pressing problems of the current situation in the party-political landscape of the interstate association. The focus of their analysis was the process of strengthening the positions of right-wing parties in the EU countries, weakening the left and centrist forces there, which was reflected in the results of the June 2024 elections to the European Parliament.
