Type: article
Abstract: Coal adsorption capacity is the key indicator affecting the production capacity of coalbed methane. Four anthracite coal samples were subjected to isothermal adsorption experiments. Adsorption capacity of anthracite analyzed under deep reservoir conditions, and the thermodynamic mechanism of methane adsorption in anthracite was determined. The results revealed that the excess adsorption gas volume increased sharply at pressures ranging from 0~4 MPa, increased slowly at pressures ranging from 4~8 MPa, and then decreased. The methane adsorbed-phase density in coal at different temperature conditions fitted from the intercept of the linear fit between the excess adsorption gas volume and methane free-phase density was 0.218~0.322 g/cm3. Thus, methods were established to fit the methane adsorbed-phase density in coal. CBM ’s adsorbed-phase density, adsorption phase volume and theoretical maximum adsorption capacity show a negative correlation with temperature. Changes in energy during methane adsorption in anthracite coal at 30°C,45°Cand60°C was calculated. Thermodynamic mechanism and the influence mechanism of vitrinite reflectance, moisture content, and ash content on the adsorption properties of anthracite was revealed.
