Abstract: The article is devoted to the consideration of several episodes from the history of the Crimean Peninsula. Greek colonists appeared on the territory of Crimea at the beginning of the 7th century BC. They encountered the Crimean aborigines Taurians in the foothills of the Main Range of the Crimean Mountains. The image of these autochthons is vividly captured by Euripides in the tragedy “Iphigenia in Tauris” as well as in the testimonies of Greek and Roman authors. In the Greek tradition the Taurians appear as semi-wild barbarians living by robbery. At the same time, archaeological data associated with the Kizil-Koba archaeological culture indicate that this population was engaged in agriculture and cattle breeding, hunting and fishing. During the reign of Justinian, I, a number of “isar” fortresses appeared in this region. After Crimea became part of the Russian Empire in the 18th century one of these former fortresses Ortyks on Ayu-Dag after many twists and turns in its history, having been a private estate and a fashionable resort, gave its name to the children’s camp “Artek”. С VII в. до н.э. В XVIII в.
