Year: 2025

Abstract: Prescribed psychostimulant medications for methamphetamine use disorderan urgent path forward Prescribed stimulants, modeled after opioid agonist therapies, show modest benefits for individuals with severe stimulant use disorder.Higher doses of extended-release preparations appear safe and can reduce illicit stimulant use, although retention in care remains a challenge.Combining these medications with psychosocial interventions may help further, but more rigorous trials are needed to refine dosing, ensure safety and enhance real-world applications.
