An Innovative Approach for Implementing an Online Undergraduate Electrical Engineering Program for Community College Students

Abstract: The demand for electrical engineers in the State of Maryland is projected to increase over the next few years with the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC).This event is projected to bring new positions to the state, primarily in the Harford and Anne Arundel County areas.In an effort to provide additional educational opportunities, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Morgan State University (MSU) developed an off-campus program at Harford Community College (HCC) leading to the Bachelors of Science degree in electrical engineering.The current undergraduate program in electrical engineering being offered at Morgan State University is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).This paper presents the steps taken by our department to provide students in the Harford county area with the ability to complete the second half of an Electrical Engineering program at their respective two year institution.
