Abstract: This paper reports on the design, construction and testing of an automated garbage removal system. This project was undertaken in the course of junior-level Electromechanical Design course at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Spring 2009 to create a system that will autonomously carry trash barrels to a residential curb on trash day.The system is comprised of a motorized cart and sensors which will allow it to navigate around obstacles and arrive at the specified location. While the prototype does not yet fully meet all the objectives specified, it has most of the functional requirements and will successfully drive and avoid obstacles. The prototype will be demonstrated.
