Enhancing Machining Performance and Sustainability by Using Coconut Oil-Based Molybdenum Disulfide Nanofluid in the Minimum Quantity Lubrication Method: Optimization of Turning Parameters for the AISI4340 Steel
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: In manufacturing, cutting fluids are a significant expense, comprising about 20% of total production costs, and pose health and environmental risks. To address these challenges, there is a need for more sustainable practices, including the optimization of turning parameters using eco-friendly cooling technologies. Grey relational analysis is crucial for such optimization. In this study, a nanofluid lubricant with coconut oil was developed as the base fluid with varying weights of molybdenum disulfide nanoparticles. The thermal and tribological properties are analysed, showing improved performance over standard minimum quantity lubrication methods. The aim was to optimize the turning parameters for AISI 4340 steel using grey relational analysis in a molybdenum disulfide-based nanofluid minimum quantity lubrication setup, highlighting the potential of coconut oil nanofluids for sustainable machining.
