Evaluation of the Vitamin D role in cutaneous melanoma risk: An umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses
Year: 2025
Type: review
Abstract: Background: Vitamin D (VitD) has been the subject of extensive debate in the past decade due to its multifaceted functionality, which is currently recognized as hormonal in nature. VitD properties are renowned for the impact exerting on cancer cells. Despite the documented link between VitD levels and prevalence of several cancer types, conflicting findings have been reported for cutaneous melanoma (CM). This overview aims to compile the evidence from existing systematic reviews and meta-analyses, and investigate whether a link between VitD serum levels, VitD dietary intake, vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphisms and CM risk and prognosis exists.
