Abstract: Ambrogio Leone, a Nolan humanist of the XV century, author of the De Nola (1514), gave a detailed description of the boundary wall of the city, with the attached drawings that represent the city and its territory, supposing hypothesis about the city during roman’s era based on the ancient sources and on the monumental buildings still visible at that time. On large part of the wall’s plan, aging Medieval period, overlying walls of viceroys-era were found with bulwarks, which are clearly visible both on the cadastral parcel and on the structures found after archaeological excavations: between these the Gonzaga bulwark visible on the planimetry scheme given on the XVI century, and the designed reinforced structures only partially realized during the enlargement of the city in the north-east area. Until the end of XIX century also the Arce - the Nolan castle - has stand, a probably older fortress about which sources date back to Ladislao d’Angiò Durazzo (1377-1414), demolished to clear space to actual Villa Comunale (town park), despite a negative advice from the Monuments Conservative Commission. On occasion of the recent Robert Donceel’s death one of his important studies, regarding Nolan territory aging sixties of past century, was celebrated. Particularly our attention was captured by a synthetic document about the city and for the effort the Belgian archaeologist put on identifying the defensive structures of the ancient and modern city; on such investigating line we strive to develop our contribution in order to give shape, throughout virtual re-enactment, to the evolution of urban-planning.
