The colorectal cancer microenvironment governs clinical behaviors and chemotherapy response
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: In this study we decoded the cancer microenvironment in relation to clinical effects of chemotherapy therapies by using PDSs from primary colorectal cancers, preserving features of patient-specific heterogeneity. Important links between properties of the primary colorectal cancer microenvironment and critical clinical behaviors were revealed by detailing the protein composition of PDS and acquired resulting gene expression changes in adapting cancer cells. Scaffold proteins and induced gene changes in cancer cells were both strongly associated with the clinical response to 5-FU chemotherapy in patients, confirming encoded treatment predictive and disease specific properties within the tumor niche.
