Abstract: SUMMARY A 9-year-old male dog of mixed breeding had persistent hypercalcemia and hypophosphatemia, mitral insufficiency, 3rd-degree heart block, and urocystitis. A parathyroid adenoma involving the left caudal gland was surgically removed. A stormy postoperative course, primarily due to renal shutdown, was followed by death 6 days later. Necropsy revealed typical systemic complications due to persistent hypercalcemia. The remaining parathyroid glands were normal. A bile duct carcinoma was also present.
