Abstract: The uniaxial tensile deformation behavior and microstructure evolutions of 7Mn1Al Medium-Mn steel were investigated by mechanical property testing, X-ray diffractometer (XRD), and quasi in-situ electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) characterization. Then, a coupled crystal plasticity constitutive model incorporating dislocation slip, twinning, and phase transformation mechanisms was established. A finite element model was constructed based on EBSD data obtained before deformation. The uniaxial tensile deformation process of 7Mn1Al medium-Mn steel was simulated using ABAQUS software. The results indicated that the 7Mn1Al steel, after warm rolling and annealing, exhibited outstanding mechanical properties with a tensile strength of 1089 MPa, an elongation of 46%, and the product of strength and elongation (PSE) of 50 GPa·%. The microstructure is composed of granular, blocky, and lamellar austenite and ferrite. The different stability of austenite leads to a two-stage discontinuous transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) effect during the deformation process. Local stress and strain in the experimental steel exhibit alternating characteristics during the tensile deformation process, with maximum values of stress and strain alternating between the ferrite and martensite-austenite island (including newly formed martensite and original austenite, named MA island). The TRIP effect leading to a higher work-hardening rate of MA island is the main reason for this phenomenon. The transformation of martensite primarily occurs in the early stage of tensile deformation (ε < 0.2). Phase transformation initially takes place in regions with an austenite orientation of 101 and granular morphology, subsequently suppressing the occurrence of twinning in the subsequent deformation process.
