Novel 'injection-only' protocol for sentinel lymph node biopsy in cutaneous melanoma of the distal limbs provides equitable rates of node retrieval and positivity compared to traditional SPECT/CT and lymphoscintigraphy: a prospective comparison study
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Background: Sentinel lymph node biopsy has become an important feature of melanoma skin cancer care. Beyond its role in staging and prognostication, the advent of immunotherapies alongside the changing landscape of melanoma management has made this investigation key to accessing adjuvant systemic anti-cancer treatments. Traditionally, sentinel lymph node biopsy requires preoperative single-photon emission computed tomography and simple computed tomography scanning in addition to a preoperative radiocolloid injection.
