Adjuvant Radiotherapy for Melanoma – The End of an Era? A Study of the Management of Resectable Melanoma Following Approval of Adjuvant Systemic Therapies
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Background: Historically, adjuvant radiotherapy has been utilised for resected node positive melanoma in the presence of high-risk features including extracapsular extension and large nodal deposits. Radiotherapy to the nodal basin compared with observation significantly reduces the risk of nodal relapse (HR 0.52, 95% CI 0.31-0.88 p=0.023), however, a benefit in overall or recurrence-free survival has not been shown[1]. With the recent introduction of adjuvant systemic treatments, the use of adjuvant radiotherapy has declined significantly.
