Abstract: Modern landscape design originated in the West, and current modern landscape design in China largely imitates Western styles. Due to differences in culture, aesthetics, and history between the East and the West, this trend of imitation has led to the gradual disappearance of local ethnic and regional characteristics. As a unique Chinese art form, landscape painting serves as a bridge between natural landscapes and cultural spirit. Therefore, the innovative application of the spatial concepts of landscape painting in modern landscape design can enhance the artistic quality of landscapes while preserving the distinctive features of Chinese local culture. This paper elaborates on the core connotations of the spatial concepts in landscape painting and explores the intrinsic connection between landscape painting and modern landscape design. Finally, this paper proposes specific strategies for applying the spatial concepts of landscape painting in modern landscape design, aiming to explore a path for modern landscape design that combines both Chinese cultural characteristics and adaptability to contemporary needs.
